About the SKUD18

The UD18 has recently had a name change to SKUD18 (Skiff Universal Design) for these reasons:

• SK is for Skiff, the style of boat Julian Bethwaite, the co-designer is famous for e.g. 49er and 29er.
• Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary indicates “the word Skud is probably of Scandinavian origin; akin to the Norwegian word skudda.”  As a verb the word means to run before a gale and as a noun it means a gust of wind, both very appropriate for this new exciting, fast and safe sailboat.   
• UD is for Universal Design, a design philosophy used in the SKUD18.
